At Aceti Dental, we take a preventive approach to caring for your oral health. Regular oral examinations and hygiene cleanings at our Hamilton office can help you prevent any dental issues and maintain a healthy smile.
Ideally, you'll see your dentist twice a year for routine oral exams. During your exams, your dentist will take the opportunity to identify any oral health issues and develop a plan to treat them accordingly.
During your exam, your dentist will take a close look at the condition of your gums, teeth, jaw and bite. Exams may also involve dental x-rays, an oral cancer screening and other diagnostic procedures.
Oral Cancer Screening
Any part of the mouth or surrounding tissues can become infected with oral cancer. During your exam, your dentist will check the neck, face, lips, tongue, throat, gums, and tissues for any signs of oral cancer which are difficult to detect with the naked eye.
Oral Health Care at Home
Brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time to ensure your smile stays healthy between dental appointments. You should also floss at least once a day.
Before or after your exam, your dental hygienist will complete a deep cleaning of your teeth and gums to prevent and treat disease.
First, a scaler will be used to remove any plaque and tartar buildup. Then they'll remove any leftover stains and plaque with a polisher and coarse toothpaste, followed by a thorough flossing of your teeth and gums.
If you or your child is deemed to be at high risk of tooth decay, your dentist may also suggest a fluoride treatment. Fluoride is a natural mineral made of the same minerals in your tooth enamel. Gargling with fluoride helps to rebuild these minerals, preventing or reversing tooth decay.
